Spring Portraits

This post could be entitled Easter Portraits, but it seems a bit past Easter for that.  Every spring, we have our human children’s portaits done; but, it’s been a rather busy spring and that hasn’t happened yet.  Luckily, it just takes a few minutes to run the dolls out to the yard and take their portraits, so that did happen.

The lovely Ruthie in one of Kit’s dresses.  I found an old photo of a relative wearing a dress in this style and, of course, my Ruthie had to have it.

When I was uploading the photos I realized I didn’t take a photo of Cecile by herself!  At least her and Addy look sweet together.

I just love my dark haired little group!

I also wanted to take a quick moment to send a shout out to Clara at https://clarascraftcorner.wordpress.com/.  It was great fun to open my email and find that she had nominated me for a Blogger Recognition award.  Thank you Clara!

Easter Egg Hunt

The dolls gathered today for their Easter egg hunt.  It would have been a beautiful day for humans, but for dollies, it was a bit too windy.  There was an awful lot of this.

Despite the wind and a two year old waking up from his nap the egg hunt went on.

The girls taking their pre-hunt picture.  Ruthie looks a little out of place, but Kit’s Summer Dress seemed like the perfect Easter dress.

The girls were very excited about the hunt and each was hoping to win.  We were a bit worried there might be issues, but each doll was a perfect lady.

Eggs were hidden among the plants, in the grass, and many other places.

Quite a few eggs were left near the fairy house.  Molly spotted them first, but was kind enough to leave a few for Ruthie.

Cecile was super-competetive in the beginning but kept getting distracted.  She insisted I take her picture with this pretty rose.

But then she saw Saige was coming and decided she better move quickly to get a few of the eggs hiding under the rose bush.

When they were sure they had found every last egg each bucket of eggs was counted.

Cecile had 7 eggs, Ruthie had 10, Saige had 4, and Molly was the winner with 11!

We wish you all a very Happy Easter!

Easter Dresses

The big project over the last week or so has been new Easter dresses for the dolls.  I saw a doll dress in a chevron pattern on etsy many months back and fell in love.  However, I felt the particular chevron used in that dress was too large for doll scale.  Well, imagine my delight when I found a very small chevron in a very spring color at JoAnns.  I tried waiting for it to go on sale, but in the end sacrificed a coupon for it out of fear it wouldn’t be there when I wanted it.  You may have already noticed a sneak peak of that fabric in my ‘Mini Doll Wardrobe‘ post.

A friend had pinned a dress in a similar color with pink accents to her pinboard.  It gave me the idea to pair the dress with a pair of pink Mary Janes I had picked up from Silly Monkey and use a pink bow as an accent.  Once again I used the Colorblock dress pattern found at Pixiefaire.com.  (BTW – Pixie Faire has been giving away a free pattern every Friday.  I don’t know how long they will keep it up, but check it out on Friday just in case.)   So, here is Cecile in her new Easter dress.

I also purchased ribbon that matched in case I didn’t like the pink ribbon.  I asked my daughters what they preferred for their dolls’ dresses.  They both chose the matching ribbon.  Unfortunately, Saige and Molly, but especially Molly did not have great shoes for Easter.

I just love Saige’s slight head tilt.

I’ve had those buckets sitting around for years; I think they were leftover from my sister’s wedding.  I was thrilled to find a use for them.  They will come in very handy later in the week for our Easter egg hunt.

Which do you prefer…the pink ribbon with pink shoes or the matching ribbon?

American Girl Limited Edition Sets

About a week and a half ago American Girl released some new items and boy are they adorable.  It would be hard to accuse AG of not making things that are ascetically appealing to the eye!  However, they don’t appeal to my pocket book…at all.  The sets I was most in love with were the Egg Decorating Set, Kit’s Candy making Set and the Rainy Day Outfit.

My mom has a collection of egg cups so the bunny holding eggs is near and dear to me.  However, as I mentioned before I was not ready to plunk down that kind of money for it.  As it happens, I was in town the day after the release and saw some miniature Easter eggs at Michael’s.  I’d normally wait for them to go on sale, but as we live far from town and this release had JUST come out so I decided to splurge and spend $3 on them.  Here are the eggs I picked up.

I honestly didn’t know if I’d ever find anything to be able to do with them, but our grocery store is turning out to be quite the place for me to pick up unconventional doll accessories.  We took a stroll through the Easter aisle last time we grocery shopped and found these egg cartons with gum eggs!  It was only a dollar for a package of four.

Here is a picture to give you an idea of the size.

And then an open carton with my eggs in it on the right.  My eggs were slightly smaller than what would be ideal.

Now, this is where I got really excited.  In the same aisle, was this adorable little white rabbit bowl (probably meant to be a people sized egg holder) which makes a great centerpiece to display the colored eggs and it was only $1.50.

Cecile loves her new egg coloring set!

…and so do all of the other dolls.  This is what doll play actually looks like in our house.  Every doll must be involved and any random outfit they are wearing will do.  🙂
